Administration

  • Marko Bojovic - Principal
    Marko Bojovic has been Principal of St. Sava Academy since 2006. Mr. Bojovic received his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Master of Public Administration, both from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Also, Principal Bojovic is currently working on a second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at Northeastern Illinois University). Always an advocate for the Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian culture and people, Mr. Bojovic has approached his leadership role with ample enthusiasm and sincere concern for the success of his faculty, students and the Academy.  




Our Teachers

  • Svetlana Aleksic is the Kindergarten and 1st grade Serbian language subjects teacher. Svetlana received her Bachelor’s of Education Degree from the Dusan Jerkovic Teacher’s Academy in Serbia. Mrs. Aleksic has over 20 years of teaching experience. Her students praise her daily concern and highest standards for their well-being and herald, “Mrs. Aleksic teaches us great stuff.”

  • Ljiljana Burza is the 2nd - 8th grade Serbian language subjects teacher. Ljiljana received her Bachelor’s of Education Degree from the University of Belgrade in Serbia. Mrs. Burza has over 25 years of teaching experience. Along with exhibiting expertise in her subject matter, Mrs. Burza grounds her teaching philosophy on positive reinforcement and the belief that everyone can learn.

  • Rosa DiCosola is the 5th-6th grade English language subjects teacher and the Academy Computer Education teacher. Miss DiCosola obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University in Chicago

  • Simana Filskov is the Preschool English subject’s teacher. Simana received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and her Bachelor’s of Criminal Justice from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Likewise, Simana is currently working on her Master of Arts in Secondary Education. Mrs. Filskov has over 15 years of teaching experience. Her creativity and project-based approach to learning is very well-received by all students.

  • Laura Georgievna Dovlatyan is the Academy Russian language teacher, a new addition to our dual-language curriculum.  Laura is also an active parishoner at Holy Virgin Protection Russian Orthodox Church in Des Plaines.

  • Svjetlana Glisic is a 5th-8th grade Serbian language subjects teacher in History and Geography and the Academy Administrator Assistant. Mrs. Glisic received her Bachelor’s in Music Education at Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL) and is currently working on a Social Studies endorsement.

  • Milijana Jakovljevic is a teaching assistant in preschool. Mrs. Jakovljevic has been with the Academy for several years both as a teacher and a teacher’s assistant.

  • Marko Kalic is the Academy Physical Education instructor. Currently, Marko is completing his Physical Education studies at Northeastern Illinois University. Marko Kalic has several years of experience teaching children at St. Sava Academy, the YMCA and various park district programs. . The students of St. Sava Academy love Cika Marko’s creativity and they look forward to gym class every week.

  • Jelena Krsmanovic is the Preschool Serbian language subjects teacher and a Preschool Assistant. Jelena received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kragujevac and the Jagodina Teacher’s College in Serbia. Ms. Jelena’s special love for her students is greatly appreciated by the preschool parents .

  • Stana Radunovic is the preschool teaching assistant. Stana received her Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Political Science, with a minor in Social Work.

  • Jennifer Rooth is the kindergarten and 1st grade English language subjects teacher. Miss Rooth received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Bradley University.

  • Cassandra Werkau is the 2nd and 3rd grade English Language subjects teacher who comes from a family of teacher professionals. Miss Werkau received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL).

  • Popadija Jelena Vranic is the Academy Music teacher. Popadija Jelena completed the Josip Slavenski School of Music and the University of Arts programs, both in Belgrade, Serbia. Likewise, Popadija Vranic has taught at the University of Kragujevac in Serbia. In total, Popadija Jelena has over 10 years of teaching experience. The students of St. Sava Academy are delighted to experience Popadija Vranic’s wonderful musical talents. This is Popadija Jelena’s first year at St. Sava Academy.




Our Staff

  • Petra Milosavljevic is the Academy Chef. Teta Petra has been with St. Sava Academy since 2001 when the school was called Socrates-St. Sava Academy. The students of St. Sava Academy love all of Teta Petra’s food, however their favorite is her macaroni.

  • Mladen Vukovic is the Cathedral Caretaker. You will always see Cika Mladen throughout the Cathedral/Academy campus.




Clergy  

  • V. Rev. Fr. Darko Spasojevic is the Cathedral Dean of Holy Resurrection Cathedral and a St. Sava Academy religious education teacher.

  • Rev. Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic is the parish priest for the Southern Parish of Holy Resurrection Cathedral and a St. Sava Academy religious education teacher.

  • Rev. Fr. Vasilije Vranic is the parish priest for the Northern Parish of Holy Resurrection Cathedral and a St. Sava Academy religious education teacher.

  • V. Rev. Protodeacon Dr. Damjan S. Bozic is the Cathedral Protodeacon and a St. Sava Academy religious education teacher.
