Our History
Originally founded in 2001, as an Orthodox Christian partnership between Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, both of Chicago, the collaboration lasted five years. The advantageous partnership enabled St. Sava Academy to flourish and we extend our warmest wishes to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Socrates School community for a successful future. With Socrates Greek School’s relocation, St. Sava Academy has built upon the roots of this promising foundation.
History was made on August 28, 2006, when St. Sava Academy opened its doors as an independent Serbian Orthodox parochial school. Students, parents, faculty and clergy full of love, joy and excitement, crowded the school foyer, as the academic year began. Forty students, clad in navy blue and white uniforms, lined up by grade with their teachers, as the clergy read prayers and led the opening benediction.
St. Sava Academy proudly bears the distinction of being the first dual-language Serbian Orthodox parochial schools for students in pre-school through eighth grade in the United States and Canada.
